I do not understand at all how this is legal. Everyone can just drive whatever they want on the Ring? It is absolutely hilarious to watch some of these cars race like this but I do not know how they don’t end up with multiple dead bodies after one session.

Something something that’s because they’re not rubbish American drivers something.

Pretty sure it’s a public toll road.

What is difficult to understand?
It’s a one-way toll road with no speed limits. Any car can drive there because it’s a road like any other one.
Only in the US do you risk your financial life everytime you step outside your home. People are responsible of their decisions in Germany and pretty much everywhere in Europe. You can’t sue someone else for your own actions. Some people drive stupidly, but well, you cannot blame the road owners for people who drive like shit on their road. Cops do enforce the place and tend to be quite severe if too many crashes occur in a day...

That DHL Transit was hauling ass there, haha.

It's technically a public toll road, not a track. Therefore, you can drive whatever you are on it.

The guy in the GMC is my new hero.
And that old Toyota is crazy cool.

And are embeds working or is it just me?

But do they even need helmets? Are there speed limits or other rules? I feel like open passing seems excessive to allow. Idk I’m just so used to how structured a track day in the US would be so this seems so wild to just be able to nonchalantly drive on a track like this without restrictions.

My favorite is the guy that was basically sideways through the turns while blocking the other guys from turning. He was going hard!

The blue 4 door?
That Seat Inca that oversteered was pretty funny also, the Fiat Ducato Vs. the Vivaro was pretty funny also.
I lost it at the coach though, haha.

Judging by all the sidewalk chalk, it’s probably some kind of free-for-all track day. I think it’s awesome; the best way to get to know your particular vehicle is to push it to it’s limits, right?

I only copy pasted the link and it auto converted

Oh, and DHL: Our Drivers Do Track Days.
Or DHL: WE’RE REALLY THAT FAST

I might be a paranoid American, but it just seems so unsafe. Track safety and all that always seemed like a big deal to me. And this just like shits all over that lol.

Do you need your helmet when you get groceries? It’s a road. Not a track. Road rules apply... Only difference is that there are no speed limits just like on the autobahn.
And there are no open passing. You can only pass on the left when it’s possible, you have to wait until the driver in front of you allows you to pass and so on... When people pass like shit like this DHL truck they are actually subject to fines and possible jail time if anything happens.

The Nordschleife is basically treated the same as the Autobahn, mostly the same rules apply, only a few changes for the specifics of the track. Racing is not allowed, except when it is closed for... you know... a race.
That's why I don't go to track days here in the US... been spoiled by being treated like an adult on race tracks in Germany, the US just annoys me these days with all the coddling that the Lawyers force upon us. Until you live outside the US you will not realize how little freedom there is in the US.

Well. Guess it's just me then.

Again, it's technically not a track. And you don't need to go to Germany for this sort of thing, anyway—look up the video of the wiener mobile going through the corkscrew.

They are crazy, and they do have fatalities. A motorcyclist died the day I was there, and they ended up closing the track for the rest of the day. Of course I had just reloaded my ring card with 6 more laps.
The craziest thing I saw was the sidecar riders hanging their bodies off while passing cars in the turns. This is not my picture, but exactly what I saw.

That's the best part.

Sidewalk chalk? That’s all paint/graffiti. Nurburgring is well known for it.

I didn’t know. Thanks for telling me!

Sure thing! I can see why one would think it’s sidewalk chalk. The paint even shows up in Forza and Gran Turismo games, and I’m sure others that feature the track.

Okay so there are some rules at least. Just looking at the video and thinking everything was legal led me to think that there were no rules. It was mostly the anarchy of passing going on that confused me and worried me. But yes if you can get in trouble for doing crap like that, then I understand it a bit more. Do they at least have a tech inspection of some sort? Sure it is just a road, but people are still driving it like it is a track. At least ensuring wheels are not going to fall off of the car would be a good idea.
![]() 09/22/2015 at 07:39 |

Yup, this is kinda what I figured. I am just so used to the US and how things work here that I was confused. Very entertained but concerned just based on normal conventions here. Interesting to think how free the people of Europe really are in many regards.
![]() 09/22/2015 at 07:41 |

Germany has mandatory tech inspection every 2 years.
![]() 09/22/2015 at 07:46 |

They have the ADAC tech inspection every two years for every cars on the road licensed in Germany, France and England also have similar systems.
![]() 09/22/2015 at 07:50 |

Wow and places like Florida and Michigan here in the states don’t check anything ever. That is a really good idea, I don’t get why we don’t do that everywhere.
![]() 09/22/2015 at 07:52 |

I like this. Driving in Germany must be much more relaxing. Those youtube videos of truck tires flying across a highway and annihilating a car certainly put me on edge. Places that have some sort of routine inspection of all vehicles definitely would put a stop to that.

Because “freedom” to drive a POS and crash everywhere lol

I went there with my 28-year old Toyota.. It is kiinda scary but a lot of fun.

As E92M3 already pointed out, they DO have fatalities. It’sjust that it’s seen as some sort of Darwinism. Stupid people who overcook it kill themselves, it’s not like they could plow through a group of schoolkids.
